COAST TO COAST

SUNRISE - SUNSET  - 2017

In 2017, for various reasons, it was not possible to organize the usual annual motorcycle tour of several days. Alternatively, something had to be done and so our "Poor retirees" club organized a one day trip coast to coast. The consideration was that there are endless coast to coast routes, which can be counted in one of the three categories of sea to sea journeys: Ocean - ocean, Ocean - sea and Sea - sea. With our Vespa, in 2011, we covered the classic coast to coast USA from Atlantic to Pacific and in 2015 we rode back and forth along the  Pyrenees from sea to ocean; we were still missing the local Adriatico - Tirreno: what a better occasion! The program is soon decided and it foresees the Adriatic departure at dawn, with the sun rising from the sea, transit trough the Italian Route 66 and the Tyrrhenian arrival, with the sun setting into the sea.

It all starts with a dinner based on Adriatic seafood in Cervia and, after a short overnight stay, wake up before dawn to have a picture of our Vespa with the sun rising from the sea. After a pleasant breakfast, we ride towards the Apennini; a few kilometers before the Passo del Muraglione we have stop at the volcano of Monte Busca and then we reach Florence. In honor of the capital of Italian Renaissance, we have a snack based on the tasty "peposo", cooked according to the ancient recipe, developed by Brunelleschi for the workers involved in the construction of the famous dome. Just as the coast to coast USA was characterized by riding the historic mother road Route 66, so our route "from sea to sea from sunrise to sunset" also goes on the SR66, from Florence to La Lima. Apart the name, the two roads do not present many similarities: The three retirees reach Viareggio, for the photo under the statue of Burlamacco with the sun behind. The dinner in a typical restaurant in Versilia, based on the salty Tyrrhenian fish, concludes the nice day.
