38 B - 1962

During my time spent in London, felt in love with old British motorcycles, I also bought two pre WWII Raleigh Roadster bicycles, that  I restored in my flat. I dismounted them piece to piece and put them in condition to safely and efficiently be ridden on the roads. I also participated, with my full satisfaction, to the traditional New Year parade, in the sector dedicated to vintage bicycles.

When back to Italy, the 1935 bike was fitted with a replica of a vintage sidecar, while the other dating 1928 remained in a sleeping situation, waiting for a more worthy future. One day, chatting with a friend of mine, I put my attention on the historical consideration, that, after the war, mobility in Italy was reborn thanks to simple but ingenious vehicle, such as the Vespa, the FIAT 500, which I already own and the moped Mosquito. So I start thinking about equipping the older Raleigh with a roller grip engine.

With the purchase of a 1962 Mosquito 38B engine with clutch, the works to transform my bike into a revolutionary new "velocipede with auxiliary engine" suddenly begun. I also customized this vehicle with an hommade flat tank  and a rear stand in vintage motorcycle-style. At the end of the works I faced the huge problem how to register it and, after numerous researches and bureaucratic procedures, now the vehicle is regularly equipped with circulation documents and its plate. I can therefore ride it on the road with mandatory helmet, circulation stamp and insurance, touching the crazy speed of about 40 kilometers per hour; then, if it may happen the engine stops, I can always pedal, in any case always with the helmet worn. Luckily when I made the sidecar for the 1935 bike with 26 rims, I made it compatible even for 28 bike, like the now motorized one; even this Raleigh can be combined with my existing “Parma violet” sidecar.
